Causes

Destination matters in FTP speeds

FTP speeds greatly depends on where the servers are located. If the server is very closer to your destination then you tend to get good speeds but if the server is located far away then speed gets varied and may be slower to you. For example, If the servers are located in Netherlands and you are located in USA, you are downloading the file from high server to your computer so speed may vary.

Routing or Peering arrangements

FTP speed problems depends on how your ISP peers with our network. Peering managements changes with every transit on daily basis, if you started to get slow speed out of no where there nothing we can do about it except changing the route from one transit to another to make sure you get your files delivered from the transit that your ISP peers with.

Day time/ Peak time congestion

Peak time congestion can also be the major factor in delivering low FTP speeds. It is observed that typically ISP's throttle speeds or run their network under congestion at 5PM to 11PM due to which there's very low bandwidth room to handle extra load to be able to provide good FTP speeds 24/7.

Troubleshooting

  1. Segmented Downloading - You can download the file quickly by cutting the files into parts, and download those elements simultaneously as different files and combine them later instead of downloading that file as whole.
  2. Concurrent Downloading - Download multiple files at the same time instead of downloading each file one by one.

Ignored things

There are things that gets ignored sometimes while running the above tests or while downloading the files. Please make sure the following things are good:

  1. Firewall - If you are using firewall, then there's a possibility that firewall is blocking your FTP downloads. Please add the exception to fix this.
  2. There could be chance that other application in your computer is consuming your whole bandwidth, Please use task manager to track the usage and see if other app is not using your bandwidth.
  3. VPN - Please try downloading your file by disabling your VPN, there are chances that VPN is throttling your speeds.
  4. Please look at the other connected devices with your network. There are chances that other device connected to your network/wifi is consuming your bandwidth.

Nothing worked? We are here to help

If nothing above worked then there are ways we can help you troubleshoot your problems.

  1. Reroute your traffic - There are chances that your traffic maybe routed over congested IP transit or maybe your ISP doesn't peer with the default route IP transit. In that case, we can reroute your traffic to go through different IP transits that we have access to. In order to automate this, we have build great tools so that you can reroute traffic on your own. Please find our reroute tool links here: Speedtest files and Network Quality
  2.  Using one of our proxy -  We have proxy servers in 4-5 different locations, you can download the files from these locations and tell us which gives you the best speed so we can generate a account at those proxy for you and you can use them to get better speeds
  3. Please open a ticket by giving us the screenshot for speeds you are getting from these four locations

IMPORTANT

IMPORTANT: The speedtest results from the servers provided below does not signify the actual speed that you will be getting on your seedbox or VPS plans. It's just a rough estimate of the connection speed between the speedtest server and you. On the other hand it will help us map your network statistics, so that we can optimise it in case of any sort of connection or speed issues. In case you are getting slow speeds, that doesn't mean you will get slow transfer speeds on your seedbox or VPS plans, we will optimise your network connection, so that you always max out your connection speed.

Now open a ticket with test results, so we can create SOCKS5 proxy account to achieve desired FTP download speed. Please also include your IP address while opening a ticket so we can perform the tasks, without your home IP address we cannot do much about it.
